ALL of them Dear Apple - stop being stupid. For such a great engineering company, why can't you get the obvious things fixed. These cords fray at the connector. ALL of them do. Sometimes at the power brick, sometimes at the Mac end. Then I have to go spend 80 bucks for another adapter - when all I really need is the cord.
So do the right thing, and put a MagSafe connector on BOTH ends of the cord, and a MagSafe jack on the side of the power brick just like the one on the side of the computer. Then, I could (1) disconnect the cord completely from the adapter when it's in my bag, and not have to worry about the cord getting bent and broken where it connects to the power brick, (2) could have my choice of cord lenghts - maybe a short one for my desk and a long one when I travel, and (3) I could replace JUST THE CORD if it got damaged or worn, for something like 5 or 6 bucks instead of 80. What do you think? Would it be so hard to do? More (Read full review).

They are horribly overpriced at $80 and they break every 8 months or so. Clearly a goldmine for Apple. In the past 3 years, I've h Well, the answer is clear. They are horribly overpriced at $80 and they break every 8 months or so. Clearly a goldmine for Apple.
In the past 3 years, I've had one break near the magnetic end and one near the wall plug end. A third just mysteriously quit working, though it looks brand new. I am very careful with these cords, but it makes no difference.
Also, they get dangerously hot. I had just talked my mom into switching from PC to Mac, but honestly now I might talk her back into a PC. I know these complaints are not new.
Several reviews say the same thing. So when is Apple going to fix the problem?

They say 3rd time's a charm. Apparently not, as this will be number 4. It is ridiculous Yeah, here I go again buying another POS power cord for my MacBook Pro. They say 3rd time's a charm. Apparently not, as this will be number 4. It is ridiculous how poorly made these cables are. It is ridiculous that Apple has not corrected the design flaws that are blatantly obvious.
Then again, all one needs to do is read the reviews for this product to see changes need to be made. I baby my power cord because I'd much rather spend my $80 on something else. I'm disabled and bed bound so my laptop goes nowhere, except from my bed to my lap then back to my bed, period. And I make sure the ends never bend. So this time, it freakin frays in the middle of the cord? I now have a foot long area in the middle of the cord where I've had to use electrical tape because the cord is splitting and fraying.
There's no reason my cord should wear out. Did I mention my laptop doesn't go anywhere except from my bed to my lap then back to my bed? Oh, right, I did, I just thought it worth mentioning again. Apple, I'm tired of buying these cords and spending $80 a pop for the whole cord when all I need is from the adapter to the laptop.
I really, really do NOT need another wall to adapter section. If I could donate that portion to charity I would, but there's obviously no need, as the market is already flooded. The charger cable only last for 2½ years before it starts to fray like it's been abused when in actual fact that it's only been on the desk most of its life. The charger cable only last for 2½ years before it starts to fray like it's been abused when in actual fact that it's only been on the desk most of its life. I can literally see it fray itself from NOTHING DONE TO IT.
Support says it 'Normal Wear & Tear'. It break downs from being on the desk. I can literally count the number of times that I have actually moved the charger with 1 hand. $120 for this kind of 'quality'. More (Read full review).

I lived in the US ten years ago and plugged my UK purchased Toshiba laptop into the mains using an ordinary travel adaptor that you get in an airport etc and it worked fine. I bought a Macbook Pro when I was out there - which is what I am typing on now and it plugs into the mains in the UK without any problems. You don't know need a 'convertor' - just an 'adaptor' If you look on the 'white box' in the middle of the power cable, it actually says 100-240V and 50/60Hz. The supplied power cable does the necessary work for you. So - I am using a US purchased MBP with the original US power adaptor and all I have is a £4.99 travel plug adaptor and it works just fine.
