Copy Games On Ps2 Using Xdumb For Mac

Ok, I've had this thought recently. The Wii VC is basicallly emulation for older game systems with legal ROMs.

How long before someone hacks the VC or writes an application for the Wii that allows someone to load PSone games. PS2 might even be a possibility if the code is efficient enough that the emulation doesn't load down the processor too much. It's also been said multiple times that Sony is making profits in gaming due to game sales (licensing and first party games). Would Sony be willing to do their own Wii VC engine to allow playing PSone/PS2 games? They could open up a whole new audience for the games (a game sold is a game sold whether it's played on a PC through emulators or on an actual PS2). Since the Wii is about 2x the cost of a PS2 it shouldn't be a threat and much of the Wii consumers won't be in the market for a PS2 since they either have one already or were never considering one but might buy the games if the Wii can play them. All this would do is open up another market for PS games.

Much like Microsoft doesn't care if windows is run on a Mac or a Dell, a copy of Windows sold is a copy sold, they have no stake in the hardware. I realize that Sony actually has a stake in the HW the games are run on but it's been said many times on this board that their profits on the HW are slim if they profit at all. If they are sucking up a loss on PS2 hardware selling games without the loss should be a bonus. If the profits are slim on the HW then selling more games should only be a benefit especially if the market is one they couldn't tap previously. Click to expand. The Wii already does N64.

Admittedly Nintendo does have inside information on this, but it does bode well that a PSone emulator is possible, especially since the Wii should be somewhat more powerful than a straight Xbox. The PS2 would be difficult unless Sony decides to pull a Microsoft and do their own version of Virtual PC, or Virtual PS2 as one could say. I realize it's probably not likely for Sony to do this but there are a couple reasons it could be a profitable move: 1) It wouldn't be a threat to PS3 sales.

A Wii won't be able to play PS3 games, ever, but if you only want PS2 games there's no reason someone would buy a PS3 anyway. 2) PS2 is roughly half the cost of a Wii, so anyone wanting only PS2 games will still only buy the PS2 and not a Wii. 3) Most Wii buyers either already have a PS2 or won't ever be getting one. For those that have a PS2, games will be sold making $ for Sony, for those that don't have a PS2, an emulator would open up a market that was previously untapped which could result in major sales. I admit it's not likely but it would be cool.

The fact that the PS3 can play PS2 games is only a minor selling point. No one would buy a PS3 to play only PS2 games.

If all you want is PS2 games the most effective choice is a PS2. People will buy the Wii for Wii games and the PS3 for PS3 games. If the Wii could do PS2 games via a licensed Sony emulator (hell, sell it for $50 and make some profit) it would be game sales to Wii owners who don't have a PS2 already, a market that would remain untapped with no emulator.

Wii already has Genesis games. I could see the Saturn in it's future. Click to expand. The Wii just like every other console is basically a computer, it runs the opera web browser so it would be possible to write an application that could emulate any consoles that are less powerful than the Wii, which consoles you can emulate all depends on how efficiently you can code the translation from one consoles language to another's and how much delta there is in processor power. It would be an application similar to Virtual PC for PowerPC Macs.

Just because processors don't speak the same language does not make it impossible to run software for one processor on another. You just take a performance hit due to the translation.

Read up on how stuff works. I know that PS games come in disk images, because, duh, they come on disks, but if you'd read the thread and my posts the idea would be to use the disk drive in the Wii to load the PS games directly from the legally bought disk which Sony would get the royalties from. I realize that there's little chance of Sony doing it despite there being valid reasons to open another market, it won't happen. I'm sure many will try to do the PSone at the very least though since it is 2 generations ago, you should almost have enough overhead on a Wii to handle it. The Wii version contains all the features and modes found in the other next generation builds and also contains an extra practice mode. Additionally, the Wii version contains an exclusive 2-on-2 mode, where players can play schoolyard football, and are required to do the 'Mississippi' count. The Wii version control is unique to all other versions of Madden.

With the Wii-mote and Nunchuk Controllers, players can imitate virtually all football maneuvers. EA has called this 'FreeMotion.'

Some examples of FreeMotion include:. Hike: When a player wants to hike the ball, the player pulls the Wii-mote back. QB: The player selects the receiver by pressing the A button, or up, down, left, right on the D-Pad then make the actual passing motion with the Wii-mote. If motioned slowly, the player will lob it. If motioned fast, the ball will fly like a bullet.

The actual QB is moved around with the Nunchuk controller's analog stick. RB: The player can stiff arm a defender by motioning left or right with the Wii-mote. To juke, the player motions left or right with the Nunchuk. To push for extra yards or a goal line stand, a player pushes both controllers forward. WR: The player can choose to play as a wide receiver and make the catch. When catching, the player must raise both the Wii-mote and the Nunchuk in the air to make the catch.
